Kyle Kobis Leads Balanced St. Lawrence Attack in win over Rensselaer

Senior Kyle Kobis scored 14 points including nine in the second half and seven in a key second half run to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 76-63 victory over Rensselaer Saturday afternoon in a Liberty League matchup in Troy.

St. Lawrence (8-1 overall, 2-0 Liberty League) and Rensselaer (7-4, 1-1) battled back and forth throughout the first half and the early minutes of the second half. The Engineers tied the score at 42-42 at the13:13 mark of the period before a Ben Crawford layup sparked a 16-1 run for the Saints over the next five minutes.

Kobis scored the final seven points of the run with a 3-pointer and two jumpers to give the Saints a 15-point advantage at 58-43.

Five different players scored for St. Lawrence during the run as Crawford, Riley Naclerio, Dom DeRegis, Tinga Adaing and Kobis led the run.

A 3-pointer by DeRegis with 2:57 left made it a 20-point SLU lead and the Saints cruised to the victory.

Five players finished in double figures scoring for the Saints including Kobis with his 14 points. Naclerio finished with 12 points while Willie Zachery, DeRegis and Kieran Miller each scored 10. Kobis also led the rebounding effort with seven and Zachery had four assists. The Saints did not miss a free throw and shot nearly 50 percent from the field (30-for-61) for the game.

St. Lawrence returns home for a Tuesday night 8 p.m. matchup with Clarkson at Burkman Gymnasium.
