No. 9 Women's Basketball Evens Record With Victory Over Grove City (Pa.)

WOOSTER, Ohio -  The No. 9 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team defeated the Grove City (Pa.) Wolverines by a score of 75-57 in the first game of the Nan Nichols Classic hosted by the College of Wooster.

BW (1-1) pulled away thanks to a dominant third quarter. The Yellow Jackets' offense clicked throughout the night, maintaining a double-digit lead in three of four quarters. 

BW Leaders (1-1)

  • Senior Academic All-OAC forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville / Little Miami) led with 13 points and six rebounds, while going 3-3 from the free throw line
  • Senior forward Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) was strong on both sides of the ball, recording ten points, and a team-high three steals and six rebounds
  • Junior guard Laura McCoy (Newtown Falls / Garrettsville Garfield) gave out a team-high four assists while tallying eight points
  • Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati / Sycamore) and junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield / Marysville) each recorded nine points 


Grove City Leaders (1-1)

  • Meredith Sherrerd led Grove City with 13 points 
  • Reese Hasley recorded two assists and a team-high eight rebounds
  • Alexis Hudson finished with nine points 


1st Quarter (BW 22-19)

  • Wilkerson got the Yellow Jackets on the board, hitting a three to give them an early lead
  • Senior guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) led the team with six points 
  • Thompson collected four rebounds 


2nd Quarter (BW 41-30)

  • McCoy led the team with five points
  • Thompson and sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station / Columbia) each went 2-2 from the free throw line
  • The Yellow Jackets recorded five steals during the quarter


3rd Quarter (BW 66-37)

  • Thompson opened the half with a layup 
  • BW expanded their lead to points outscoring the Wolverines 25-7
  • Halfway through the quarter the Jackets went on a 9-0 scoring run, Miller scoring six of those points


4th Quarter (BW 75-57)

  • Junior guard Taylor Bass (Strongsville) went 2-2 from the free throw line 
  • Champagne and sophomore forward Delaney Garcia (Lakewood) each recorded two points in the quarter
